Transformed Coffee Table

Many of you have commented to us about our coffee table. 

I wish I had pictures of this thing originally, and what it looked like after it's first remodel. 

We have had this table for about 4 years, and believe me it is much older than that. 

Originally, this table wasn't a coffee table at all. It was an ugly, 1970's, wood grain veneer console table - tall legs and everything. 

First, we cut down the legs to make it a coffee table. It existed like this for quite a while.

About a year into owning this thing we painted it, and covered the top with maps from National Geographic and Modge Podge. 

And we loved it. I looked for a good picture, but could only find one that showed part of it.

That's my cousin, Madchen. She's a pretty cool girl.

Anyways, 

After several moves, one being across country, the table just didn't look that great anymore. So we talked about fixing it up again. 

Just recently J* found a unique way to make it look top notch again:

Yep, those are pennies! We glued pennies over the maps, refreshed it with a new coat of brown paint, and added new nobs.

Here is the finished product!

For now anyway. We think we are going to grout the pennies, just to make the top nice and smooth. We really want to pour resin over the top, so that we can keep the maps underneath and have a glassy look, but we can't figure out a way to pour the resin without it dripping over the sides. 

Any ideas?
